Well, getting to NAMM was a bit of an adventure. The great snow storm of 2020 caused us a few minor hiccups in our travels.

Getting There

We had booked in to shoot across the straight via SeaAir Seaplanes, but due to imminent weather conditions we knew we would be unable to fly. We looked into Helijet as an alternative but the weather was going to be unpredictable so, upon their recommendation, we decided we would travel by ferry, which was smooth sailing.

The snow on the other side did cause a few problems with transportation to the airport, but we made it in great time. If there was one silver lining, it was that the security and customs lines we short due to the travel issues.

Our flights were quick, with what ended up being a two minute layover in San Fransisco. We got off of the plane, and turned around to re-board our original plane. From SFO to LAX it was fast. We essentially ascended to cruising altitude and started our descent over SoCal immediately.

The Show

The NAMM Show is always a bit overwhelming on the first day. It’s bright lights, big sounds, and about 100,000 people, give or take. If you make good use of the app and plan your route a day in advance you can make quick time walking it around the trade floor. The first day is always getting a feel for things, saying hello’s to people you connected with last year, or like us at Summer NAMM in Nashville.

The show is a little different each year, but the set up has been pretty consistent. We caught a few shows, Animals as Leaders was a highlight for the Thursday Night Concert, and Kenny
SOMEONE was there to wrap things up.

We were luck to spend a few minutes with Matt Sorum, know for his work with Guns N Roses as well as The Cult and Velvet Revolver. We also spoke with both Carmine Appice of Vanilla Fudge and Beck, and his brother Vinny Appice of Black Sabbath
. Stephen Ferron, drummer for Tom Petty , was an absolute pleasure to connect with as well.

We’re looking forward to following up with everyone we met at this years show, and we can’t wait to be back again!

This week our crew is headed for Miami for a few interviews and then we’ll be traveling through to Trinidad. Thanks for stopping by, and we’ll see you here next week.
